Life Coaching for College Students |
Is your educational experience fun as well as intellectually stimulating? Do you feel as though you are
working steadily toward your goals? Do you get a sense of accomplishment from your hard work towards your goal? You can.
Coaching can make the task and goal less overwhelming, more fulfilling and ultimately a more useful activity in your long-term career plans.
Choices (What have I gotten myself into?)
Do I really want this degree? Am I up to the challenge? Is all this work worth the effort and sacrifice and financial drain? Will this take me where
I want to be in 5, 10 or 25 years?
Difficult questions and big decisions, but delaying your commitment to your goal will prevent you from ever reaching it.
As your life coach, I will join with you to help you sort through all the information, including your goals, vision, hopes, dreams, thoughts, feelings
and doubts to help you make the choices that will help you finish your degree.
Major Papers, Projects, Assignments, Tasks
Is there a large project (thesis, dissertation, scholarly paper, etc.) that is looming ahead of you? Working on the thesis, dissertation, or other
scholarly work can be a lonely process. There is often a sense of perfectionism that pervades ones thinking, This has to be
publishable. This has to be the definitive work. This has to answer all the questions
and so forth.
Sometimes negotiating or working with a difficult or non-communicative advisor or committee or faculty member becomes a stumbling block. Sometimes
the task at hand seems so overwhelming that just getting started seems to be impossible.
There are ways to make the journey toward your goal easier, more enjoyable, and more fulfilling. You can make steady progress and still have a life.
As your life coach, I will be your partner in supporting and encouraging you through the struggles, and help you find your inner motivation to work
toward your goals. I can help you weigh the sacrifices against the benefits and help you keep yourself on the right track.
Test Anxiety and Stress
Do you have test anxiety, stress about public speaking, difficulty challenging or questioning an authority, procrastination anxiety, etc.?
There are simple and effective ways to deal with these stumbling blocks.
You may not be able to control the difficulty of the test or the personality of a professor, but you do have complete control over your reaction to any
stressful situation. You can choose to respond in a healthy way. You can choose to take care of yourself so that you have the energy and reserves to
deal effectively with the expected and unexpected challenges that you face.
As your life coach, I can help you learn techniques that will help you better manage your stress and anxiety and take care of yourself, too.
I have been there
I spent 15 years earning my undergraduate degree in Psychology and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. I dealt with all of the typical
challenges of college and graduate work including financial strain, difficult faculty, relationship stress, bad roommates, huge looming
projects, competition, etc. But I made it and so can you!
I also developed some of the best relationships I have ever had, married, had two wonderful children, traveled and had a life. I look very fondly on
my work as a student. I made a difference in others lives.
My wish for youIs that you also are able to look back on your educational experience as fulfilling personally as well as
professionally. You can add some letters behind your name and do it with less stress, more balance and more efficiency. You can complete your degree
on time. You can make your degree work for you. You can have a life filled with joy and purpose while you are a student. I would love to be part of
the journey with you.
